From Hon’ble Vice Chancellor

Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai. Earlier Dr. Chakradeo was Professor and Principal of Smt. Manoramabai Mundle College of Architecture, Nagpur. Dr. Ujwala Chakradeo is an architect and urban planner & completed M’Tech and Ph.D. from VNIT in 1989 and 2006 respectively. She graduated from VRCE- Vishveshwarayya Regional College of Engineering Nagpur in 1984. She has been teaching architecture since 1985.

Deeply involved in exploring methods and means of teaching architecture and other subjects. Her topic for Ph.D. was ‘Impact of Social Change on Architecture Education of India’. There are many research papers to her credit. Eleven scholars have been awarded Ph.D. under her guidance. Four scholars are pursuing Ph.D. at present under her guidance. Dr. Ujwala has six copyrights to her credit.

Her experiences with her students are documented in a Marathi book ‘Scale ani T Scale’ published by Sahitya Prasar Kendra Nagpur in 2013. Experiments in experiential learning motivated her to document student’s study tour work at Bhutan and Harsil Valley. Along with other books she has contributed a chapter on ‘Lifecycle Assessment, Methods and Procedures’ in Encyclopedia of Renewable and sustainable materials by Elsevier in 2019. Recently in 2024 she has published one more book – ‘Temples of Bharat: A Journey Through Time, Art, Architecture & Culture’

Fellow of the Indian Institute of Architects & Associate member of Council of Architecture. Member of various prestigious organizations, she was President of MASA- (Maharashtra Association of Schools of Architecture), member of Bhartiya Shikshan Mandal All India Board of Town and Country Planning of AICTE, PG board of COA, NEP committee of COA. Management Council Member of IGNOU. Steering committee member of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan of UGC for fostering social responsibility amongst students of Higher Education. Dr. Ujwala has undertaken professional projects as architect and interior designer for government and private clients.

She has founded post graduate programmes in Architectural Education and in Urban Design at Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj, Nagpur University, Nagpur in 2007 and 2020 respectively. She is a life member of the Indian National Trust for Art & Cultural Heritage (INTACH).

She was chairperson of a committee constituted by Government of Maharashtra for implementation of National Education Policy in Maharashtra in 2022. Dr. Chakradeo has been awarded the National Level Award for Architectural Design of Shahid Memorial near Zero Miles, Nagpur.

Dr. Ujwala was included in the list of influential women working in the education sector in the country in 2024, prepared by the prestigious financial weekly BW Business World.
